Our Chef D’Inspiration, Sunita was born in Kerala, a South Indian state. She is a professionally qualified chef and also she was very passionate about cooking from her younger age itself. She developed her cooking skills from the kitchens of her parents and her grandmothers. Daana is also providing a range of dishes inspired by many of Sunita’s home recipes. She is so delighted to share those yummy food recipes with the customers here if they ask for it!
Sanjay is basically from Delhi, and his grandfather was a culinary specialist. His recipes were renowned for festival and wedding catering. Sanjay followed his grandfather and chose his career as a chef. He did his academic training as a chef and has experience with India’s preeminent hotel group, Taj Hotels.
Sunita and Sanjay have explored many cities across India together and experienced various regional delicacies and cuisines, which became the foundation of what they hand out to Canberrans through Daana’s top notch menu cooked with immense passion and joy.

Every Saturday, they do a different region of India and foods that the area specialises in.

Growing up around authentic Kerela inspired South Indian meals cooked by my grandmother, we visited Daana during their “Onam” special weekend. Food was amazing and the experience came with so much warmth from the owners Sunita, Sanjay and the rest of their staff (banana leaf service with full typical Kerala menu of more than 20 items). It felt like a delicious home-cooked meal after a long time! Highly recommend if you are looking for good South Indian food in a cosy setting!”
